The politician cites, among others, former Prime Minister Philémon Yang, Dr Joseph Dion Ngute, Dr Christopher Fomunyoh…
What if the resolution of the Anglophone crisis depended on the election of an Anglophone to lead the country? At least, that is what political scientists, politicians and civil society actors believe.
‘More and more political scientists, politicians and civil society actors believe, rightly or wrongly, that an Anglophone third President of the Republic and Head of State would definitively resolve the Anglophone problem,’ reports Didier Yimkoua on his Facebook page.
The politician cites a few names of personalities who could lead Cameroon. These include former Prime Minister Philémon Yang and current Prime Minister Dr Joseph Dion Ngute. Also, Dr Christopher Fomunyoh, Director of NDI-Africa, former Bar President Akere Muna and Professor Dorothy Njeuma.
Below is the full text of his post:
A few names have been put forward:
✓ Philémon YANG, former Prime Minister (RDPC)(1)
✓ Dr Joseph DION NGUTE (RDPC)(2)
✓ Dr Christopher FOMUNYOH Director of NDI-Africa (3)
✓ Me AKERE MUNA: GLENCORE case(4)
✓ Prof. Dorothy NJEUMA: Elecam (RDPC)(5)
What are the strengths and weaknesses of these figures who nevertheless have what it takes for the job?
(1) A man of the system and an activist in the Rdpc, he is in reserve for the Republic.
(2) A man of the system and an activist in the Rdpc, the current Prime Minister is married to a woman from the centre and is a level-headed man. He is still in office.
(3) He is outside the system but can rely on his international influence. Not very well known nationally.
(4) A man of the system, son of his father, a skilled strategist, he repositioned himself in the political arena with the GLENCORE scandal. Unfortunately, he lacks a strong political apparatus.
(5) A woman within the system, an RDPC activist, former member of the government and Vice-Chancellor, she is the only woman among the five contenders. The gender aspect is an asset.
There are three living people who have a good grasp of the Anglophone problem: H.E. Paul BIYA, Minister ABOUEM a TCHOYI and Prof. Dorothy NJEUMA.
Of the five presidential candidates, (2) has more assets than the others: he is the current Prime Minister and is under 70 years of age. He has presided over the GDN with great skill.
Some zealous ministers are trying to trivialise his power, but he derives a certain legitimacy from the Cameroonian people. History tells us that Prime Minister Paul BIYA was slapped by Mr AYISSI MVONDO. We know what happened next. (2) enjoys the support of extra-political entities. He is a traditional chief and must build and strengthen his pillars within the army and religious denominations.
