Joshua Osih’s Campaign of Shame: Dehumanizing Our Sisters, Wives, and Mothers

When a nation has fought tirelessly to build dignity and empowerment for its women, it is both shameful and dangerous for a so-called presidential candidate to reduce our mothers, sisters, and wives to objects of ridicule. Yet this is exactly what Joshua Osih, the SDF’s “bobby candidate,” has chosen as the foundation of his campaign. His words and actions are not only dehumanizing but also a foretaste of the humiliation Cameroonian women should expect if such a man were ever to hold the reins of power.

Osih’s reckless rhetoric and mockery expose his contempt for women. By reducing them to symbols of political entertainment, he has crossed a line no Cameroonian should accept. This is not about politics—it is about the dignity of our mothers who raised us, our sisters who stand by us, and our wives who build homes and communities with us. His behavior sends a chilling message: that women, under his leadership, will be subjects of ridicule rather than partners in nation-building.

We call on UN Women, the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment, and all NGOs defending women’s rights to take a clear stand against Joshua Osih’s practices. Silence in the face of this insult would only embolden such dangerous political rhetoric. Cameroon cannot afford to normalize this level of disrespect toward women, especially from someone seeking the presidency.

It is time for Cameroonian women to rise as one voice and say NO to this insult. The dignity of the female gender cannot be a bargaining chip for cheap politics. Every woman must remember who has truly stood by them over the years—President Paul Biya, a consistent champion for women’s emancipation and protection. From policies of inclusion to programs that fight violence against women, Biya’s record stands in stark contrast to Osih’s ridicule.

For decades, President Paul Biya’s leadership has pushed forward the cause of women in Cameroon—championing laws against gender-based violence, fighting harmful practices like female genital mutilation, and creating institutions that uplift women socially, politically, and economically. Joshua Osih’s campaign insults these hard-won gains and attempts to drag us backward into traditions of dehumanization, all in the name of selfish political ambition. This is not the kind of “change” Cameroonians fought for. It is regression, plain and simple.

Cameroon needs leadership that respects and uplifts women, not one that mocks and dehumanizes them. That is why women must turn out massively to support and vote for His Excellency President Paul Biya—the proven defender of women’s dignity and the only leader with a true track record of empowerment.
